Fred and Frank Comics. The Collection of Comics 1979-1984.
"Stationed in Germany with Fred and Frank" was a monthly comic written and illustrated by Charles Kaufman between 1979 and 1992 about the off-duty hours of two U.S. servicemen stationed in Europe . From 1979-1992 Fred and Frank cartoons were read each month by nearly a million Army, Navy and Air Force personnel stationed in Europe.
The comic appeared in the monthly magazine "Overseas!" as a full-page, black-and-white cartoon.
It became a cult classic with its readers and is possibly the longest running (13 years!) military-related cartoon series ever published.
This book is a collection of the first four years of Fred and Frank comics that was originally published in Europe in 1984 and is republished here in its entirety from front to back cover.
A second book is in the works for Fred and Frank comics from 1985-1992.

Finally !!! After missing it for over 25 years, I finally found a copy (albeit a Kindle) of one of my ALL TIME Favorite cartoons from Stars and Stripes in Germany. I read these strips in the monthly magazines, and near the end of my second tour of duty I bought the "Stationed In Germany" collection. I promptly filled in the ownership page with name and duty station, loaned it to one of my NCOs , and it sadly PCS'ed to CONUS with that NCO :( These were so good that I figured that would be no problem, that I could always get another one, and then Charles PCS'ed and quit drawing them :(Anyone ever stationed with the US Armed Forces in Europe should and probably did love this series. There is something for everyone to relate to in here. If you know someone who served overseas during the 80's and 90's and they don't have this collection, you should really think about getting this for them!

The only thing I have to say is if you were stationed in Germany anytime from the late 70's into the early 90's, you can relate to Fred and Frank, the protagonists in this fantastic book. Doesn't matter what service, you can certainly relate to the GI topics of the day Fred and Frank make fun of. A very good comic, and good reading for anyone in the military during the Cold War period.
I wasn't stationed in Germany (I did get to visit there, once), but I was stationed in England (RAF Croughton) for two years (1981-1983). The "Fred & Frank" comics were a regular in a monthly free magazine, "Overseas Life." Mr. Kaufman did a very good job of capturing the nuances of being an American G.I., living in a foreign country, and spicing them up for the enjoyment of the inherent and often-times unavoidable humor. Be it experiences while interfacing and integrating with the local culture, or the unique specifics of being in the military and all that goes with it, these comics bring out a lot of the details, with some exaggeration and humor cleverly added to make these very special and memorable.
I still have my copy of the original magazine, which is the body of the work of this eBook. Great memories! I'm glad to see it given new life through this "republishing."
The memories this bring are AWESOME! I remember using my allowance to buy the original at the Stars & Stripes Bookstore at Augsburg Germany in 1984 or so.
I was 1 ridgeline over at Husterhoeh Kaserne in Pirmasens 1982 - 1984. Germany was fun. I don't remember this cartoon, but then, I was Army. This is a humorous but fair depiction of barracks life.
Multiple tours of duty in Germany with time spent laughing at the Antics of Fred and Frank! Any old Soldier that was there will well understand the hilarious antics of these two, and many more likely knew fellow Soldiers who were up to the same

My all-time favorite comic! Bought the original paperback/hard copy version while stationed in Germany in the early 1980s. Still have it! Was excited to find out via Charles Kaufman's Facebook page that it was available digitally. Can relate to pretty much everything in it!
